Nurses and Police Deserve Our Thanks

AMS Digital wanted to say “thank you” this week.

So we did, the best way we could think of… with video.

In April, AMS Digital sponsored a Community Heroes campaign through Voice of Alexandria and Leighton Broadcast.

The purpose of this campaign was to recognize people in the community who are serving the greater public good during the COVID-19 crisis. This included healthcare workers, emergency responders (police, fire, ambulance), daycare providers for healthcare workers, supply chain workers (those truckers and grocery workers), as well as others in the community who are helping us all to make it through this together.

During the month-long program, the public was encouraged to nominate a local hero who was then recognized on the radio. For those of you who might have missed it, here’s our video which further explains the details about the campaign.

This week is special.

With National Nurses Week from May 6th-12th and National Police Week falling on May 11th-17th, we wanted to once again extend our thanks and appreciation to all who are serving the greater good amid this time of global crisis.

During these weeks of recognition, it is important to not only send thanks to those working at the frontlines, but all nurses and police including those who may be working in a different unit or are out of work because of the pandemic. See two new videos we created just for this week, on the AMS Digital Facebook page. (Be sure to “like” our page while you’re there!)

Keeping this in mind, we at AMS Digital also wish to encourage you to reach out and show your appreciation for our local heroes as well. There are many ways that you can show gratitude, even during these times of sheltering in place. Some great examples/suggestions are:

  • For nurses, there are a variety of resources at http://nationalnursesweek.org/ with options to submit stories as well as join organizations supporting those at the frontlines of healthcare.

  • For those on the police force, https://www.concernsofpolicesurvivors.org is an excellent place to look for various things you can do in support of law enforcement.

  • With social media, you can use the hashtags #NursesWeek, #YearoftheNurse, #PoliceWeek and #NationalPoliceWeek to post encouraging messages as well as statements of thanks for all of their hard work.

  • And while it may be more difficult to reach out to our healthcare professionals and law enforcement officials during this time of quarantine, sending a personalized thank you letter and/or making a donation towards an organization that supports nurses and police is another great way to show thanks.

Times may be tough, but it is important to show thanks and appreciation to those working hard to keep us safe. By recognizing our local heroes who risk their safety to help others, we are showing and actively giving our support from a safe social distance.

From all of us at AMS Digital, we thank those who serve the public amid this crisis, and in more “normal” times, too. We appreciate your sacrifice and dedication.
